Has Your Partner Announced She’s Pregnant?
Nothing can rock your world more than having your partner suddenly say those three little words, “I am pregnant.” Three words that change your future. Don’t panic. Sycamore House Pregnancy and Family Life Center is here for you and your partner. We can help you.
First Things First
Before you move forward, you want to be sure she has confirmed her pregnancy. Bring her to Sycamore House for a free self-administered, medical-grade pregnancy test.
We will refer her for a free ultrasound if the test is positive. An ultrasound detects whether the pregnancy is developing or if she’s had a miscarriage (she can still get a positive test result days or even weeks following a miscarriage). It also tells you how many weeks she has been pregnant.
She’s Pregnant. What Should I Do?
It would be easy to walk away and tell her to “just take care of it.” Of course, that wouldn’t be the responsible or compassionate thing to do.
Here are some suggestions of things you should do:
- Be there for her emotionally and physically.
- Keep the lines of communication open, and listen!
- Educate yourself on your options and speak to people who can guide you to the right source.
- Be honest with her and yourself, sharing how you both feel.
- Let her know you are with her and that you are going to go through it together.
Here are some suggestions for things you shouldn’t do:
- Do not cut yourself off from her emotionally or physically
- Do not stop communicating with her.
- Don’t pressure her to do what you want her to do.
- Don’t run from your responsibility.
