Have You Confirmed Your Pregnancy?
Pregnancy confirmation means you got a positive result on a pregnancy test, and an ultrasound determined that your pregnancy is developing. Because experts estimate as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage, you need to know if yours is growing or if you’ve miscarried.
We can provide a referral for a free ultrasound to get the information you need.
What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is an imaging method that uses sound waves to produce images of the inside of your body. There are two types of ultrasound to diagnose a pregnancy. Sonographers perform an abdominal ultrasound on the outside of your body. They perform a transvaginal ultrasound on the inside.
Either way, the sound waves form a view of your pregnancy and can detect the sound of a heartbeat.
Why Should I Have An Ultrasound?
An ultrasound answers three vital questions.
- Is my pregnancy developing with a detectable heartbeat, or have I had a miscarriage?
- How far along am I in my pregnancy? (gestational age)
- Where is my pregnancy located?
In addition to discovering if your pregnancy is growing, knowing how long you have been pregnant is vital. Many women are surprised to find they miscalculated the date. Often, ultrasound reveals they are farther along than they realized. Knowing the gestational age (the number of weeks you have been pregnant) is especially important if you are considering abortion.
A few pregnancies begin growing in the wrong location. This is known as an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is extremely dangerous and can even be life-threatening if left undiagnosed. Be sure and talk to us about an ultrasound referral to get the information you need.
